Hit-and-run is alleged in the death of a 19-year-old Nipomo bicyclist died who who perished after being rear-ended by a Jeep SUV on Los Berros Road.
San Luis Obispo County, CA, May 17, 2022 — Joshua Thomas Edward Mcfarland has been identified by authorities as the victim in an alleged hit-and-run bicycle collision that occurred on May 12 in San Luis Obispo County. Joshua Mcfarland, a 19-year-old resident of Nipomo, was riding a bicycle south on Los Berros Road when the incident began prior to 11:20 p.m. Authorities say that a black Jeep SUV rear-ended the bicycle as it was nearing El Campo Road, causing the young man to be thrown onto the right shoulder of the road. First-responders arrived and attempted to help the victim died from his injuries. The driver of the Jeep allegedly left the scene and later called the California Highway Patrol, reported a “possible” collision. Highway patrol members reportedly found the suspect at their home and placed them under arrest. The investigation is ongoing and the CHP in San Luis Obispo (SLO) is asking for the help of any witnesses to the tragic collision.
