Santa Barbara County, CA, June 1, 2022 — Sebastian Gil, Daniel Razo, and Jose Luis Hernandez have been identified by authorities as the deceased in a multi-vehicle collision that occurred on shortly before 5:00 p.m. on May 28 in Isla Vista, in Santa Barbara County. According to information attributed to the California Highway Patrol, 28-year-old Jose Hernandez was driving a Nissan that witnesses reportedly said ran through a red light at the intersection of El Colegio Road and Stadium Road. That allegedly precipitated a collision with vehicles described as a BMW and a Toyota SUV. It’s not clear which vehicle they were in, but 20-year-old Sebastian Gil and Daniel Razo, believed to be students from Santa Barbara, were tragically claimed by the accident. Jose Hernandez also died. Meanwhile between five and eight other people were injured. At least two were seriously hurt, including Jose Hernadez’s brother. Reports that have come out in subsequent days allege that Jose Hernandez, a Santa Barbara resident and father of three young children, had a record that included a reckless driving charge in 2021. An investigation into the devastating and complex case is ongoing.
