Carlos Riva, 22, was driving a Saturn that lost control and overturned on the 10 Freeway near Holt Avenue in a deadly early morning collision that killed a 25-year-old San Bernardino woman.
Covina, CA, May 10, 2022 — Mariah Beltran has been identified by authorities as the decease victim in a two-vehicle collision that occurred on May 8 in Covina. Mariah Beltran, a 25-year-old San Bernardino resident, was a passenger in a Saturn Vue that was travelling west on the 10 Freeway (aka the San Bernardino Freeway) near Holt Avenue. The driver was 22-year-old Carlos Riva, a Los Angeles resident. According to information attributed to the California Highway Patrol, at 1:23 a.m., the young man driving the car apparently lost control and collided with a Honda Accord driven by a 47-year-old Los Angeles woman. The force of the collision caused the Saturn to rollover. First-responders arrived and took Mariah Beltran and Carlos Riva to Pomona Valley Hospital where the young woman died due to internal injuries. Carlos Riva survived with injuries described as moderate. The driver of the Hondas suffered only minor injuries and was not hospitalized. The CHP has said it does not suspect that alcohol played a role in the tragic incident but an investigation is ongoing.
