Hit-and-run is suspected in the death of a 65-year-old Madera resident who died after a vehicle leaving Highway 99 entered his path on Avenue 9.
Madera County, CA, May 20, 2022 — Roberto Rivera Meza has been identified by authorities as the victim in a motorcycle collision that occurred on November 10 in Madera County. 65-year-old Madera resident Roberto Meza was riding a motorcycle eastward on Avenue 9 when the incident began. At around 11:30 a.m., authorities allege that a vehicle turning left off of the Highway 99 entered the motorcyclist’s path. The motorcyclist was able to avoid an actual collision with the car. Unfortunately, the evasive action went wrong and the motorcyclist was thrown from his bike. First-responders arrived and took Roberto Meza to Community Regional Medical Center where the victim sadly passed away, despite having worn a helmet at the time of his collision. Meanwhile, authorities allege that the driver fled the scene heading east. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the tragic incident and has been quoted as saying that any witnesses to the event may be able to receive as much as $2,000. Meanwhile, the CHP is attempting to locate the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta from the mid-to-late 2000s. They say they are also seeking the driver of a van, which may possibly be either a Honda Odyssey of a Chrysler Pacifica.
