A tragic accident occurred early Sunday morning on the westbound 60 Freeway in Hacienda Heights, California, involving a tour bus and a Nissan SUV. The crash resulted in one fatality and left 32 individuals injured.
Incident Details
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the collision took place just after 5:00 a.m. The SUV was disabled in a traffic lane for unknown reasons when it was struck from behind by the tour bus. The impact caused the bus to veer across lanes and crash into a guardrail. The SUV caught fire upon impact, resulting in the death of its sole occupant. The fire was contained to the SUV and did not spread to the bus.
Injuries and Hospitalizations
The tour bus was carrying 63 people, including the driver. Of the 32 individuals transported to local hospitals, two were in critical condition, while the remaining passengers sustained moderate to minor injuries. Another 31 passengers were able to leave the scene in a separate bus.
Traffic Impact
The crash led to significant traffic delays as westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway were closed between Azusa Avenue and Hacienda Boulevard for several hours. Authorities advised drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
Investigation Ongoing
The CHP is continuing to investigate the cause of the collision. Preliminary reports suggest that the SUV became disabled for unknown reasons before being struck by the bus. No further details have been released at this time.
