Yesenia Lisette Aguilar has been identified by authorities as the victim in an alleged DUI pedestrian collision that took place on August 11 and has resulted in murder and multiple other charges for motorist Courtney Pandolfi. Ms. Aguilar, a nearly 9 months pregnant 23-year-old Disneyland employee, was walking with her husband, James Alvarez, on Katella Avenue in the vicinity of Bayless Street after 7:30 p.m. when a Jeep went off the road and onto the sidewalk, striking Ms. Aguilar. Mr. Alvarez barely avoided injury. The driver was Ms. Pandolfi, a 40-year-old Garden Grove resident who was allegedly driving on a suspended license after being convicted of DUI on three prior DUI occasions. The young woman was rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center. The doctors were able to save Ms. Aguilar’s baby daughter, who is in critical condition, but the young woman tragically died from her injuries. Ms. Pandolfi has been arrested on murder charges, having been convicted of a DUI on three prior occasions. Authorities say that prosecutors may ask for a life-sentence in the tragic case.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased during this difficult time. Our thoughts also go out to the injured child of the victim.
