A 64-year-old local resident was attempting to cross Lotus Lane in a wheelchair when he was fatally struck.
Bakersfield, CA, January 2022 — Willie David Moten has been identified by authorities as the victim in a pedestrian collision that occurred on January 16 in Bakersfield. Willie Moten, a 64-year-old local resident, was attempting to cross Lotus Lane, just west of Cottonwood Road, prior to 9:00 p.m. The man was in a wheelchair. Reports say he may not have been using a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle. First-responders arrived and took the victim to Kern Medical Hospital but he tragically passed away from his injuries not long afterwards. The driver of the vehicle reportedly remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. While a DUI or excessive speed is not currently suspected, the Bakersfield Police Department is soliciting the help of any witnesses as the investigation into the tragic incident continues.
