Dr. William Patrick Doherty has been named by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as the victim in a deadly incident involving bicyclist Doherty, 75, and a Ford F150 truck driven by 87 year-old Chico resident Jim Volyes.
The collision occurred on the morning of Wednesday, August 1 and approximately 10:20. Reports say that Voyles northbound truck was traveling at 40-45 mph when Doherty is said to have moved into the traffic lane to avoid some damage. Doherty was hospitalized but passed the following weekend. The CHP has not named speed or substances as a factor in the crash at this time. An investigation is, however, ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim in this difficult time.
