Thomas Butler has been identified by authorities as the victim in a motorcycle accident that occurred in Stanislaus County on July 1. Mr. Butler, a 38-year-old Waterford resident, was riding a Suzuki motorcycle on Oakdeal-Waterford Highway shortly after 7:00 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Diane Pierce, 61 and a resident of Denair, turned left in front of the motorcycle. She later told authorities she had been unable to Mr. Butler due to the sun. The vehicle reportedly caught fire immediately after the accident and the motorcyclist died at the scene. Ms. Denair was also injured. The incident is being investigated.
