Shelly Rau has been identified by authorities as the victim in an Arden Arcade pedestrian collision that occurred on May 22. Ms. Rau, who was 45-years-old, was reportedly walking with a shopping cart when she was allegedly struck by a Mercedes-Benz SUV driven by Dean Marvin Barbera, a 52-year-old resident of El Dorado Hills. The California Highway Patrol alleges that Mr. Barbera was notably under the influence. The CHP said he attempted to flee the scene but was quickly captured by a nearby police officer. He has been arrested on multiple charges.
