The Merced California Highway Patrol says a juvenile died in a rollover crash on Saturday night.
The crash was reported at approximately 9:37 p.m., May 2nd, 2020, as a solo rollover collision on Vincent road, just South of Linwood Avenue, a rural incorporated area of Merced County.
Upon officer’s arrival, it was discovered the collision involved two vehicles.
During the investigation, officers revealed that 21-year-old Osvaldo Ibarra from Turlock was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry with seven occupants at a high rate of speed, allowing the vehicle to travel off the roadway and overturn several times.
Officials say, two of the juvenile females were riding on the laps of the rear passengers.
Ibarra and a juvenile female front passenger were ejected from the Toyota, she came to rest on the roadway.
The Toyota came to rest on its driver’s side on the dirt shoulder of Vincent Road, CHP officials said.
The front female juvenile laying in the roadway was then hit by a 20-year-old from Delhi driving a 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup Southbound on Vincent Road.
The driver of the truck told officials, he did not see anything in the roadway due to the dust and dark conditions.
The female sustained major injuries as a result of the second collision and was life-flighted to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto. A juvenile male passenger in the Toyota sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Alcohol use by Ibarra is suspected to be a factor in this collision and was placed under arrest. However, due to his severe injuries, he was released to the custody of the hospital.
All other parties in the Toyota were transported to Memorial Medical Center and Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto for major to moderate injuries.
The driver of the Chevy did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision and is cooperating with the investigation. No drugs/alcohol use are suspected on this driver.
