Ruben Ortiz Jr., and 18-year-old Escondido resident, has been identified by authorities as one of two dead in a tragic accident that occurred on July 9 in San Diego. At some point after 11:00 p.m., a Nissan Altima containing six teenagers spun out of control on a bridge on Route 56. The car was blocking traffic and the teenagers reportedly decided to head over a fence but did not realize they were on a bridge. The teens fell 75 feet, with the two boys dying at the scene. Two girls, age 14 and 15, were badly injured and hospitalized. Two others survived and were not hospitalized.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and families of the deceased during this difficult time as well as to the surviving victims.
