Robert Charles Payne has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a collision involving a car and a pickup truck that occurred in Twentynine Palms on July 10 shortly before 7:30 p.m. Mr. Payne, a 70-year-old local resident, was driving a Subaru Outback on Amboy Road when the car collided head-on with a Toyota Tacoma pickup occupied by driver Cameron J. Turner, 19, and Jason S. Bussell, 22, both of Twentynine Palms. Mr. Payne died from his injuries at the scene while Mr. Turner and Mr. Bussell were both injured, Mr. Turner seriously. They were both rushed to a Palm Springs hospital for medical care. The California Highway Patrol is seeking out witnesses as they investigate the cause of the accident.
