Rene Menjivar has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a big-rig truck accident that occurred in Orcutt on October 4. Mr. Menjivar, a 52-year-old Guadalupe resident, was driving a semi for Rancho Harvest Farms on Highway 1 in front of the Rancho Maria Golf Club when he swerved to avoid a Toyota Avalon driven by Alan Bruce Durham, a 66-year-old Arroyo Grande resident, that had just exited the golf club’s parking lot. The truck driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. Mr. Menjivar died at the scene from his injuries. Another vehicle, a Volkswagen occupied by two residents of Santa Maria, Ricardo Zurita, 19, and Eric Pineda De Jesus, 20, was involved in the accident but neither they nor the driver of the Avalon were harmed. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the tragic mishap.
