Matthew Loper Dead in Barstow Head-on Car vs. School Bus Accident

Matthew Derek Loper has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a traffic collision and that occurred on October 22 in Barstow. Mr. Loper, a 35-year-old Helendale resident, was driving towards the intersection of National Trails Highway and Hodge Road on Route 66 at about 8:00 a.m. when his car collided head on with a school bus carrying 12 students from Riverside Prep School. The man tragically died at scene but neither the school bus driver or any of the students were injured. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision and seeking out witnesses.
