Man flown to hospital with head laceration injuries after truck vs farm tractor collision

n April 15th, 2020, Officers from The California Highway Patrol (Merced office) responded to the area of Cressey Way and Walnut Avenue for a report of a collision involving a farm tractor and a pickup truck.

Officers responded to the collision at approximately 7:28 a.m. upon arrival, officers located a Farm tractor and a Toyota Tacoma involved in the collision.

Upon further investigation, officers determined that 60-year-old Santiago Soto from Winton was driving a New Holland tractor westbound on Cressey Way, approaching Walnut Avenue at approximately 10 to 15 miles per hour, with the appropriate slow-moving vehicle triangle visible as well as the four-way flashers activated.

58-year-old Mao Moua of Winton was driving a Toyota Tacoma westbound on Cressey Way, approaching the rear of the tractor at approximately 55 miles per hour.

Moua failed to notice the tractor traveling at a slow rate of speed ahead and failed to slow down before colliding with the rear of the tractor.

As a result of the collision, Soto sustained a laceration to the forehead and was transported by air ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.

Moua was transported by ground ambulance to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock for complaint of pain to the chest.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
