Lupe Ortiz and David Sims have been identified as the deceased in a multi-vehicle involved a big-rig truck that occurred in the Chico area on June 10 prior to about 12:50 p.m. Ms. Ortiz and Mr. Sims, both 55-year-old Los Molinos residents, were in one or two of a number of cars that were struck after a big rig truck driven by Jobanjit Singh, a 22-year-old Sacramento resident, allegedly rear-ended a Honda Accord after failing to stop at the intersection of Highway 99 and Neal Road. The force of the impact caused a chain reaction with a number of cars in front of the accord colliding with each other. It has not been made clear if Ms. Ortiz and Mr. Sims were in the Accord or one or more of several other cars that were involved including a Honda Civic, a Honda Odyssey, a Buick, or a Chevrolet. An investigation to determine the precise cause and liability of the deadly accident is ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and families of the deceased during this difficult time.
