Long Beach, CA November 5, 2020 – Leonard Smith has been identified by authorities as the victim in a pedestrian collision that occurred on August 23 in Long Beach; he died from injuries that police have determined were related to the accident, although his injuries were originally considered to be not life threatening. Leonard Smith, a 74-year-old Long Beach resident was struck in a Martin Luther King Boulevard parking lot by a vehicle described as an SUV at about 3:10 p.m. Reports say the driver initially left the scene but quickly returned and spoke with police. First-responders took the victim to an area hospital to treat his injuries. They turned out to be more serious than originally thought and the man tragically died on September 6. The Long Beach coroner was involved and alerted authorities. Drugs, alcohol, and distracted are not currently suspected. Nevertheless, the Long Beach Police Department is investigating the fatal crash and seeking out witnesses
