Lauro Ordonez and Rita Pulidodied Quintero have been identified by authorities as the deceased in a two-car collision that occurred on Labor Day, September 2, in Escondido. Mr. Ordonez, 81 and a resident of Lemon Grove was attempting to exit the 15 Freeway in a late 1990s model Jaguar XK6. His passenger was Ms. Quintero, an 80-year-old Escondido local. At roughly 3:30 p.m., authorities say that he ran through a red light resulting in his car being t-boned by a Toyota Avalon. Ms. Ordonez died at the scene from her injuries. Mr. Ordonez was taken by first responders to Palomar Medical where he died after 2:00 a.m. the following morning. The 43-year-old driver of the Avalon was also taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The tragic incident remains under investigation.
