Lana Carlos has been identified by authorities as the victim in a pedestrian collision that occurred on February 24 in Castro Valley. Lana, a 12-year-old local resident , was crossing at the intersection of Manter Road and Crow Canyon Road in the crosswalk with a friend at roughly 3:30 p.m. Police allege that the two girls were in the middle of crossing when a black Ford F-150 pickup truck being driven by Joshua Byrne, a 24-year-old Hayward resident, turned left onto the street and struck the girl, reportedly dragging her down the street briefly. The car stopped briefly but Mr. Byrne allegedly fled the scene shortly thereafter. Authorities say that Mr. Byrne turned himself in the next day when he was arrested on multiple charges.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim during this difficult time.
