Julian Manney has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a collision involving a car and a truck that occurred on March 22 in Bakersfield. Mr. Manney, a 59-year-old Los Angeles resident, was driving in a Volkswagen shortly after 4:00 a.m. in the slow lane of the 119 Freeway. The car had its hazard lights on and then stopped. Truck driver Jeffrey Culver, 43, was at the wheel when his big-rig hauling two-trailers collieded with the stopped vehicle with Mr. Manney inside of it. The older man died at the scene. Mr. Culver was taken for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries by first responders. An investigation into the reason for the accident is currently underway.
