Judith Blankenfeld has been identified by authorities as the victim in a fatal Long Beach chain reaction auto collision that took place on the evening of April 15. Ms. Blankenfield was a passenger in a Tesla on the southbound side the 405 Freeway at some time prior to 9:40 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) alleges that the driver of the Tesla turned unsafely, collided with a curb and struck a Chevrolet which was fortunately not occupied. The force of the crash apparently caused a passenger door to be disengaged. Ms. Blankenfield, a 77-year-old resident of Hilo, Hawaii, was flung into a lane of traffic where she was hit by a BMW, killing her. The driver of the Tesla and an additional occupant were treated for minor injuries, both are said to be residents of San Clemente.
