Joshua Evans and Kenneth Atkins have been identified by authorities as one of two deceased individuals in a head-on collisionthat occurred on September 16 in Caruthers. Mr. Atkins, a 40-year-old Madera resident, and Mr. Evans, a 38-year-old Clovis resident, were both driving on East Elkhorn Avenue prior to 6:13 a.m. Mr. Evans was driving a vehicle described as a Nissan pickup truck while Mr. Atkins was driving a Hyundai. Accounts say that Mr. Evans was passing a GMC Yukon when it collided head on with Mr. Atkins’ Hyundai, which was traveling behind the SUV. The truck reportedly caught on fire and, despite the arrival of first-responders, but individuals died at the scene. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the tragic accident.
