Josephine Espiritu, has been identified by authorities as the victim in a chain-reaction related to a an alleged street race that occurred on May 11 in Long Beach. Ms. Espiritu, a 59-year-old local resident, was attempting to cross Santa Fe Avenue at a green light prior to 6:40 p.m. when she was struck by a Lexus IS20. Just prior to this, the car had spun out following a collision with an older model Honda Odyssey SUV. First responders arrived but the victim died at the scene. The drivers of the two street racers both received less serious injuries and were taken for victory. Another alleged street racer, the driver of a vehicle described as a black Nissan 350Z, allegedly fed the scene. The Long Beach Police Department is investigating the tragic chain reaction accident.
