Joseph Mendivil has been identified as the deceased in an automotive collision that occurred in San Bernardino sometime on June 1. Mr. Mendivil, a 37-year-old local resident, was driving a Honda Accord near the intersection of Lynwood Drive and Mountain Avenue. Police say that the man drove through a stop sign prior to about 2:15 a.m., only to be struck broadside by a Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver of the SUV was 42-year-old Toniyo Atkinson, also a San Bernardino resident. Police charged the man with driving under the influence. Nevertheless, the reasons for the crash remain under investigation by the San Bernardino Police Department.
