Jose Mendoza, an 81-year-old Madera resident, has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a two-vehicle collision in Madera on February 1, injuring two others. Mr. Madera was a passenger in a Chevrolet Impala driven by Johnny Mendoza, 76 that was heading west on Avenue 12. A Chevrolet Malibu heading eastward reportedly turned in front of the Impala. Both the driver of the Malibu, 29-year-old Madera resident Cecilia Padilla, and Johnny Mendoza were hospitalized with minor injuries. Tragically, Jose Mendoza, who was not wearing a seatbelt, received much more serious injuries and died at the scene. Drinking and driving is not thought to be a factor, but the incident is currently under investigation.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased during this difficult time.
