Jose Leonardo Diaz has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a collision that took place in Bakersfield on December 20. Mr. Diaz, a 39-year-old resident of Santa Ana, was driving a vehicle in the vicinity of the intersection of Bear Mountain Boulevard and South Union Avenue at roughly 6:50 a.m. when a car and a truck collided after the truck allegedly headed into the opposing lane. It is unknown which vehicle Mr. Diaz was in, but he apparently died from his injuries not long after the accident as did another driver, who has not been identified. Another individual, apparently a passenger in the truck, was hospitalized with serious injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
