Jose Antonio Azpeitia has been named by authorities as the deceased in an alleged hit-and-run and DUI collision that occurred in Costa Mesa on the early evening of December 4. Mr. Azpeitia, a 48-year-old father of five, was driving on the 55 Freeway when a driver alleged to be under the influence, collided with his car and another. Mr. Azpeitia was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Authorities say that the DUI driver responsible for the crash attempted to flee the scene, but an alert witness reported the damaged vehicle to police.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim during this difficult time.
