Hit-and-run has been alleged by authorities in the deadly accident involving a motorbike and black four door pickup truck.
El Monte, CA, February 22, 2021 — John Spata has been identified by authorities as the victim in an alleged hit-and-run motorcycle collision involving a truck that occurred on February 20 in El Monte. John Spata, a 56-year-old resident of neighboring Temple City, was driving a motorcycle on west on Lower Azusa Road in the vicinity of Peck Road prior to 7:00 p.m. when a vehicle that is believed to be a four-door black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was heading west. Authorities allege that the truck turned in front of the motorcyclist, causing the deadly collision. The driver of the truck allegedly fled the scene with some reports indicating the individual actually stopped at a nearby restaurant, looked at the victim, and went into the restaurant before leaving the scene. First responders arrived and took John Spata to an area medical facility, where he tragically died from his injuries. The El Monte Police are investigating the police and seeking out the suspect. Reports say the four-door pickup involved in the tragedy may also have damage on its front end.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of John Spata during this very difficult time.
