John Simpson has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a head-on collision that occurred on March 6 in Blythe. Mr. Simpson was a passenger in a Honda Civic driving on the I-10 Freeway when the vehicle collided with a Ford F-150 pickup truck. Reports indicate in the truck was traveling north on the southbound side of the highway after apparently crossing the double yellow line. Mr. Simpson perished immediately at the scene, but the driver was taken to an area hospital by first-responders with serious injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, who suffered minor injuries, reportedly admitted to falling asleep at the wheel. The incident is under investigation by local police. Mr. Simpson was a 47-year-old resident of Riverside.
