Joel David Broussard has been identified by authorities as the victim in an accident involving his car, a semi-truck, and nine or more other vehicles and occurred on September 8 in Sacramento. Mr. Broussard a, a 39-year-old Elk Grove resident, was driving a Chyrsler 300 south on the Interstate 5 at roughly 5:40 p.m. As traffic was starting to slow down, the Chrysler was struck from the rear by a semi hauling plywood. The initial collision started a chain-reaction which, authorities say, included a minimum of nine more vehicles. Mr. Broussard, a former mayoral candidate and active member of the Elk Grove community as well as a married father of four, tragically died at the scene. First-responders took two other individuals to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The reasons for the incident are being investigated.
