Jason Carbonell has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a solo collision also injured six that occurred on August 19 in Dana Point. Mr. Carbonell, a 23-year-old Rancho Santa Margarita resident, was was driving a Subaru Impreza on Selva Road at about 10:35 p.m. when his car was struck by a Toyota Corolla at the street’s intersection with Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). The driver of the Toyota, Ariana Joyce, age 44, was allegedly fleeing a pursuit by the Laguna Beach Police Department that had started a few minutes earlier. Mr. Carbonell died from his injuries while two injured passengers were taken for treatment. Ms. Joyce has been arrested on multiple charges including murder and DUI. She had been released from custody prior to the tragedy and will likely face a sentence enhancement as a result, reports indicate. The case remains under investigation.
