Jacob Scianni has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a horrific crash that occurred on May 13 in Norwalk. Mr. Scianni, 20, was a passenger in an SUV with Andrea Aleman-Sandoval and Diego Castillo, both 19. The driver of the SUV was, reports indicate, 21-year-old Austin Hunter Redden. All of the young people in the vehicle were residents of Whittier. At around 2:15 p.m., the SUV was witnessed traveling at an excessive speed on Rosecrans Avenue near Funston Avenue. The vehicle apparently went out of control and struck a parked and fortunately empty tow truck. Mr. Scianni was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Ms. Aleman-Sandoval was severely and is reportedly on life support. Mr. Castillo as also badly injured. Mr. Redden, who was briefly hospitalized and who reportedly had prior DUI charges, has been formally charged with murder and DUI.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased during this difficult time, as well as to the injured.
