Isaac Ishak has been identified by authorities as the victim in an alleged hit-and-run pedestrian collision that occurred on September 29 in Ceres. Mr. Ishak, a 56-year-old local resident, was crossing Mitchell Road in a crosswalk near the intersection with Whitmore Avenue prior to 7:15 p.m. when he was struck by a van allegedly driven by Roy Joseph Vasquez Jr., a 41-year-old Modesto resident. Reports allege that Mr. Vasquez was passing cars in the center lane which led to the tragic collision. Authorities say that the driver briefly stopped his vehicle and got out, but then got back into his van and fled the scene. Meanwhile Mr. Ishak was taken for treatment by first-responders but sadly died at an area hospital. The suspect was later located at his home and charged with hit-and-run as well as for forging documents and driving on a license that had been previously suspended for DUI. Authorities are continuing the investigation.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim during this difficult time.
