Irene Marie Arellano has been named by authorities as the deceased in an alleged hit-and-run collision that occurred in Modesto on the night of December 5. Ms. Arellano was reportedly using a crosswalk at the intersection of Pelandale Avenue and Chapman Road when she was struck; she died from her injuries not long afterward. The driver is said to have left the scene without stopping to help the victim. A Volkswagon Jetta was later found not far from the site of the tragedy which authorities believe was the one that killed Ms. Arellano. The incident is currently under investigation. Ms. Arellano was 59.
