Hit-And-Run Driver Wanted In Crash That Killed 11-Year-Old Girl In Highland

HIGHLAND (CBSLA) — Police need the public’s help Tuesday to find the hit-and-run driver who fatally struck 11-year-old girl in Highland.

Deputies were called to the intersection of Church Street and Glenheather Drive at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, where they found an unresponsive 11-year-old girl on the side of the road. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The girl was identified as Annika Fullerton of Denver, Colo. She had come to town with her mother to visit with family, and was out for a walk with two cousins at the time of the crash.

“Who can kill somebody’s baby and leave laying in the street? And not even stop, is beyond me. All they care about is themselves,” Annika’s father, Jim, said.

The vehicle that struck the girl was described only as a dark-colored SUV that had been going south on Church Street when it hit the girl.

Residents say the stretch of Church Street where Annika died is famously dangerous.

“We’ve lived here for 17 years and we’ve seen people killed in this intersection,” homeowner Justin Ochoa said.
