Garett Taylor has been identified by authorities as the victim in an alleged DUI solo collision that occurred on August 22 in Ukiah. Mr. Taylor, a 26-year-old Redwood Valley resident, was a passenger in a late 20th century Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck that was being driven by Dylan Pullins, an 18-year-old resident of Ukiah. At about 8:30 a.m. the pickup was on Highway 101 near Perkins Street allegedly travelling at an excessive speed and attempted to veer quickly towards and offramp but lost control and collided with a tree. Mr. Pullins was able to escape with minor injuries but Mr. Taylor was trapped inside the burning vehicle. Bystanders rescued the man but from the vehicle but he nevertheless died at the scene. The teenage driver has been arrested on charges of DUI and manslaughter. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the case and seeking out additional witnesses.
