Newport Beach, CA, — Henry Eduardo Saldana-Mejia and Gabriela Andrade have been identified by authorities as the deceased victims in an alleged DUI hit-and-run collision that occurred on December 8 in Newport Beach. Santa Ana residents Henry Saldana-Mejia, 27, and Gabriela Andrade, 28, and their three pre-school age daughters were in a Nissan Versa that was in the intersection of Newport Coast Drive and Pelican Hills Road prior to 7:50 p.m. when they collided with a black Range Rover SUV. The Newport Beach Police Department has said the driver was Grace Elizabeth Coleman, a 22-year-old local Newport Beach resident and that they believe she may have run through a red-light at the time of the accident. They further allege that she fled her vehicle on foot. First-responders arrived and declared the couple deceased at the scene. Their three daughters, age 1, 4, and 5, were all critically injured and hospitalized. Reports say that relatives have stated that their children’s father was on his way to pick up his final paycheck at an area resort where he had worked in housekeeping until recently.
Meanwhile, police apprehended Grace Coleman and took her for treatment for minor injuries. She was then arrested on multiple charges including second-degree murder due to have a prior DUI on her record. The police investigation of the tragic crash remains underway.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and families of Henry Eduardo Saldana-Mejia and Gabriela Andrade during this very difficult time. Our best wishes also go out to their three young children
