Esdras Velasquez, a moped passenger, has been identified by authorities as the victim of an accident that occurred in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Silverlake. The accident occurred before 9:00 p.m. on September 11 near the intersection of Waverly Drive and Glendale Boulevard. The moped was reportedly rear-ended by a gray 2019 BMW 5 driven by a large male in his thirties. The car briefly stopped and then left the scene, authorities say, adding that a woman was also reported to have been in the vehicle. First responders took Mr. Velasquez to an area hospital where he went into a coma, dying the following Monday. He was 34.
The deadly collision is being investigated by the LAPD, which is seeking out witnesses to the tragedy.
