Cole DeBortoli has been identified by authorities as the deceased in an accident that occurred in Santa Barbara on April 9. Mr. DeBortoli, a 21-year-old local resident, was a passenger in a Mazda 3 being driven by Brian Watana Dul, a 22-year-old Goleta resident, at around 6:00 p.m. when the car crossed into an opposing lane on Highway 154 and collided with a Toyota 4Runner full-size SUV. The two young men and two occupants of the 4Runner – Kelly Summer, 52, and Mitchell Summer, 59 of Long Beach – were all taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where Mr. DeBartoli tragically passed away from his injuries. The others all suffered mild-to-moderate injuries. The California Highway Patrol alleges that Mr. Dul was intoxicated and have charged him with DUI and vehicular manslaughter. The investigation continues.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased during this difficult time.
