Clifford Vance has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a two-vehicle head-on collision that took place in Bakersfield on January 9. Mr. Vance, a 60-year-old local resident, was in a Kia Soul that was traveling on Merle Haggard Drive in the vicinity of the Meadows Field Airport shortly before 2:45 p.m. The Soul reportedly head-on with a Jeep Wrangler. Mr. Vance was taken by first-responders to Kern Medical Center for treatment but he died not long afterward. It is not known whether or not Mr. Vance was driving the Soul at the time of the accident. Authorities are investigating the crash.
