Cleusa Coffman Dead Costa Mesa Ped Accident; Ali Fakhreddine Charged

Cleusa Moraes Coffman has been identified by authorities as the victim in a pedestrian collision that also killed her small dog and occurred on September 6 in Costa Mesa. Ms. Coffman, a 72-year-old Newport Beach resident, was walking her shitzu, Bob, using the crosswalk at the intersection of Mesa Drive and Irvine Avenue prior to 6:35 a.m.  Authorities allege that at the same time Ali Zohair Fakhreddine was driving a Hyundai Sonata down Mesa Street, running a red light and striking Ms. Coffman and her dog. Mr. Fakhreddine allegedly then left the scene without attempting to help the injured. They further charge that he was found later on, passed out in his vehicle with damage to its front. First responders arrived but both the woman and her small dog died at the scene. The driver, who allegedly had prior DUI convictions, has been charged with multiple charges including DUI and murder.

We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and familiy of the deceased during this difficult time.
