Frank Shoat, who prosecutors say is an Uber driver, allegedly ran a Tesla through a red light at high speeds, fatally striking a 40-year pedestrian using the sidewalk on Convoy Street.
San Diego, CA, June 10, 2022 — Cassandra May has been identified by authorities as the victim in an alleged DUI pedestrian collision that occurred on June 7 in the Kearny Mesa section of San Diego. Frank William Shoat who the San Diego district attorney’s office says works for Uber, has been arrested in connection with the deadly crash. 40-year-old Cassandra May was walking on the sidewalk on Convoy Street near the insection with Othello Avenue when the incident began. According to information attributed to the San Diego Police Department, at about 8:30 a.m. Frank Shoat allegedly ran a Tesla through a red light at high speed at the intersection and hit a dip in the street. At the high speeds the 39-year-old suspect was allegedly driving, authorities charge the dip caused the Tesla to go airborne where it went on to the sidewalk and struck Cassandra May as well as a street sign and a tree. First-responders arrived and took Cassandra May to an area hospital but the woman tragically died from her injuries within a few hours. Meanwhile, investigators determined that Frank William Shoat was under the influence. The suspect allegedly has a history of misusing industrial substances and admitting to buying a can of a product that can produce mind-altering sensations prior to the incident. It has not been stated whether or not the suspect was on-duty for Uber at the time of the crash. He was arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI. Reports indicate that an investigation is ongoing.
