Bryan Cacy has been identified by authorities as the victim in an alleged DUI hit-and-run bicycle collision that occurred on May 26 in Petaluma. Mr. Cacy, a 39-year-old local resident was riding a bicycle on Corona Road and Highway 101 prior to 9:30 a.m. when he was allegedly struck by Honda Accord driven by 65-year-old John Dethlefsen who crossed over double-yellow lines from the other side of traffic into the lane was Mr. Cacy was riding. The resulting collision gravely injured the bicyclist. First-responders arrived by the victim died at the scene. Meanwhile, police charged Mr. Dethlefsen, whose car also collided with a pickup truck after the bicycle collision, with being under the influence of a prescription pharmaceutical and arrested him on DUI and vehicular manslaughter charge. The Petaluma Police Department is investigating the tragedy and is seeking out witnesses.
