A passenger sustained serious injuries in the deadly crash.
Castaic, CA, January 25, 2021 — Benjamin Marquez IV has been identified by authorities as the deceased victim in a solo automotive collision that was discovered on January 23 in Castaic at about 1:00 p.m. Benjamin Marquez IV, a 31-year-old local resident, was found in an overturned pickup truck on Oak Valley Road, about a mile from The Old Road. Reports provided by the California Highway Patrol in press accounts indicate that he had apparently been driving with one passenger. Due to the isolated location, it’s possible the accident had occurred one or even two days before the grim scene was noticed and onlookers alerted authorities. The driver died at the scene but the passenger, described as a male Castaic resident in his thirties, sustained serious injuries including broken legs and head trauma and was taken by helicopter to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. An investigation is ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Benjamin Marquez IV during this very difficult time. Our thoughts also go out to the injured man.
