Anthony Chay, a 20 -year-old Sun Valley resident, has been identified by authorities as the victim in a collision that occurred on June 6 in North Hollywood. Mr. Chay was reportedly on his way to film school and was driving a vehicle described as a motorcycle by police but which news reports marked as a Vespa-type scooter. At roughly 5:30 a.m., the young man was waiting a red light at Vineland Avenue and Vanowen Street when witnesses say he was struck from behind by a car described as an Audi A4 from the early 2000s traveling at a high rate of speed. The force of the blow threw Mr. Chay from his scooter, causing him to die at the scene. The Audi continued and reportedly struck a number of other vehicles. The alleged driver of the car, 24-year-old North Hollywood resident Jessica Martinez allegedly tried to leave her car by foot after the final collision but she was detained by people at the scene. Ms. Martinez was arrested on multiple charges, including murder. It is not clear at this time whether a DUI is involved.
