17-year-old, 20-year-old, flown to Modesto after vehicle rollover in Merced

Two people were flown to Modesto hospitals after a vehicle rollover in Merced Monday evening.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene at around 7:05 p.m., the single-vehicle rollover occurred on Northbound Highway 59 just South of Tahoe Street, CHP said.

Authorities say the 17-year-old female driver from Merced lost control of the 2001 BMW Sedan and overturned several times. A 20-year-old man was also a passenger in the vehicle.

During the investigation, officers determined the 17-year-old female was not wearing a seatbelt, CHP public information officer Zuniga said.

Both occupants were flown to Modesto hospitals with major injuries.

Alcohol or drugs are not a factor, CHP says.
